Thermo Fisher Scientific produces the most compact ICP emission spectrometers available. Our experience and expertise in the design of laboratory instruments meant working with them to design the iCAP 6000 Series was destined to yield success.

The resulting advanced, high efficiency instrument improves productivity while reducing the cost of ownership. We were delighted when it received the IBO Gold Award for excellence in the industrial design of analytical and life-science instruments.

The most striking features of the new iCAP is its compact size, improved functionality and style.
The instrument is one quarter the size of its predecessor and half the size of any of its serious competitors with no compromise to performance.

Spectrometers – which measure the concentration of metallic elements in a sample – are not normally known for their cutting-edge design, but the benefits are more than just skin-deep.

While such innovative and practical design is all in a day’s work for Creactive for Thermo, one of the world leaders in analytical instruments, being able to demonstrate such a radically different product has created unprecedented interest and increased sales.

“We’ve presented the iCAP series at shows from the States to Japan, the Middle East to India,” explains Dr Mike Wassall, Product Director at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The look on people’s faces when the covers come off just says it all!”

“This design has made the product cheaper and easier to produce as well as being more functional,” continues Dr Wassall. “We worked with Creactive Design – our division’s design partner for 12 years – right from the beginning of product development. Creactive always provide three or four outline designs to meet our brief, as well as a more ‘challenging’ design. I’m pleased to say that this has been the first time we have had the courage to accept this more ‘challenging’ offer and it’s been a great success!”

“By looking at how people use these scientific instruments, we were able to improve the ergonomics,” explains Hans Petersen, Partner at Creactive, who led the iCAP design team. “The organic shape we designed for the product not only has the ‘wow’ factor but also immediately demonstrates the user benefits.”
